Are you intimidated by projects that include a zipper? Let Barb teach you how to install a zipper and make a cute Little Bag or Pouch while you are at it. Learn how to use your zipper foot, create squared corners, make tabs for adding an optional D ring, wristlet or strap. We’ll even get to practice a bit of straight line quilting to give your project a bit of texture and dimension. Your pattern will be provided. Come join us for this fun quilting class! We will be making a different quilt block each month in this 12 month series. Focusing as well on different stitching techniques. (The series started in February 2025. Join in anytime) Pattern will be provided for each class. This quilt takes just four colors. The size of the quilt is 51” X 66” Block size is 12 1/2 Layer cake and fat quarter friendly. Sashing for the quilt is up to you depending on what size you would like to use for it. Fabrics needed for the block are a total of 4 pieces of 12" x 18". 1 color for the background and 3 colors for the pieced fabrics. Total Yardage for the quilt is approximately 6 yards for the top, not including binding and backing. The colors in the quilt block are for diagram purposes. You can pick any colors for your quilt. Basic Sewing Tool Box Supplies. Standard quilting ruler (for example a 3 x12), marking pen, small cutting mat, mini iron, ironing mat, thread, machine needles, pins and clips, rotary cutter and small scissors. All Brands of Machines Welcome. This can be done on a sewing machine or serger.

class- Fabric 'N Thread Sketching

Fabric ‘N Thread Sketching This is an easy way to dabble into thread painting, using the embroidery or darning foot for thread sketching AKA thread painting without worry of the fear of “messing up”! We’ll create a simple mini project or two by learning how to drop the feed dogs and doing a little free motion embroidery. Your creation can be turned into a Post Card, Mug Rug or an Art Card. You can even take this technique and apply it to your next quilt with focus blocks. Fabric & Supplies Required 5 pieces of Timetex or Peltex that are 4” by 6” also bring the extra cut off pieces (¼ yd Timtex or Peltex (9” by 20”) and sub cut into 5 pieces that are 4” by 6”; cut off ends) 1 Fat quarter of a neutral light beige or white fabric Assorted fabric scraps in a variety of colors and patterns at least 3”by 4” (pressed/ironed) Fabric glue stick Thread in black, light grey, medium grey Fine Point or Ultra Fine Point permanent Marker Sewing Equipment Sewing machine in working order , with electrical cord and manual If it comes with an extension table, please bring that too. Want to start quilting but not sure where to begin? Join us at Calico Station for a fun and friendly 4-week quilting class designed just for beginners! Over the course of four sessions, you’ll learn everything from fabric selection to finishing your very own quilt! What You’ll Learn: Week 1: We’ll cover fabric color and selection, how to prepare your fabric, tools and rulers, cutting, pressing, and how to read a pattern. From there—it’s sew, sew, sew! Week 2: We’ll cut and piece the quilt top together. Week 3: Learn how to “sandwich” your quilt, mark it for stitching, and machine quilt it. Week 4: We’ll bind your quilt by machine—and just like that, you’ll have a completed quilt to take home! ???? Week 1 Supplies: • Camera or cell phone (for taking reference photos) • Pen and paper for notes • Pattern (provided in class) • 8 fat quarters (you’ll choose these after the first class) • Border fabric – ½ yard • Binding fabric – ½ yard • Backing fabric – 2 yards • Quilt batting – 50” x 60” (twin size) Homework: Prepare your fabric for cutting and sewing. We’ll begin sewing in class! Week 2 Supplies: • Sewing machine with electrical cord and owner’s manual • 2 bobbins • Walking foot • Rotary cutter and mat • Stripology ruler (by GE Designs) • Sewing machine needles – size 80/12 • Thread – neutral gray or coordinating color • Wonder clips or pins • At least 50 quilting safety pins • Fabric marking pens • Tape measure • Prep fabric with a 50/50 mix of Terial Magic and water Homework: Sew all your blocks together into a completed quilt top and have your border fabric ready. Week 3 Supplies: Bring your completed quilt top, sewing supplies from Week 2, backing fabric, batting, and quilting safety pins. Homework: Finish any remaining quilting and get ready to bind next class! Week 4 Supplies: • Neutral or coordinating thread (medium gray is always a great choice) • Sewing machine, electrical cord, walking foot with quilting guide • Sewing machine needles – size 80/12 • Ruler (approx. 18” long) • Camera or cell phone By the end of the 4 weeks, you’ll have a beautiful, completed quilt and the confidence to keep sewing on your own!
