This is a great way to learn to make Half Square Triangles. HST’s are the building blocks to may traditional quilt squares. This method is called the Accordion Method of making multiple HST’s . In this class you will learn to mark, sew, hold, fold, sew, and then cut your squares into those oh, so useful and creative half square triangles. The minimum HST’s to make using this method, is 6! The maximum….. the sky’s the limit! In our class we will make about 40 HST’s Supplies For This Class: Please prepare all your fabrics … press with spray starch, sizing, terial magic. Best press ,etc) • 20 light and 20 dark valued squares total of 40 squares minimum. 4 ½, 5, or 5 ½ inch size squares are fine. Using a Charm Pack is great too! (HINT: one fat quarter will yield 18 5” squares; you will need DIFFERENT COLORS OR VALUES) • Sewing Machine, electric cords, owner’s manual • NEW sewing machine needle for your machine! Ready to get started with machine embroidery? This fun, hands on beginner class will help you feel comfortable using your machine. During class, you will create an in the hoop project that can be used as a mug rug, hot pad, or mini quilt. You will learn the technique of piecing in the hoop, along with helpful tips and tricks related to machine embroidery. Topics will include stabilizers, needles, and general best practices to help you get the most out of your machine. We will be using a 5x7 embroidery hoop for this project. A fabric kit and the design will be provided in class. By the end of class, you will feel more comfortable and confident using your embroidery machine. This class is a great opportunity to build confidence using your serger while learning techniques such as accurate stitching, working with zippers, and assembling a structured bag. Whether you’re newer to serging or looking to sharpen your skills, you’ll leave class with a finished bag and techniques you can use again and again. Come enjoy a relaxed learning environment, step-by-step instruction, and the satisfaction of creating a practical project you’ll love to use! Supplies needed for class are your machine, feet for your machine, manual, machine tool kit, coordinating thread, ruler, clips for holding fabric together, rotary cutter, marking pen/pencil and supplies listed on the pattern. A small sewing machine is needed for the straps and topstitching. (If your serger has a chain stitch that will be sufficient). Prep work ahead of class is to have the fabric quilted. Did the machine eat your fabric on the first stitch? What do I do with all these strange things they call feet? That machine is crazy, it goes too fast, and doesn’t go straight. If any one of the above items have happened to you, YOU need this class. Let Barb White, a retired Home Economics teacher, help you feel COMFORTABLE using your sewing machine. Any make or brand.
