class- Quilting Using the Camera & Projection Features of the Solaris, Radiance & Luminaire - Jun 26, 2025 10:30 am
Solaris, Radiance & Luminaire owners, are you using the built-in camera and projector? In this class we will explore multiple methods of accurate placing of your quilting designs using these 2 phenomenal features of your machine including the pattern connect feature and the enhanced border function. We will be using built in designs but will discuss the use of purchased designs. * Bring your lunch and be set up and ready to go at 10:30. Prepare your quilt top ahead of time using the instructions below, we will need all the time we can get to accomplish everything in class. * This class is for Solaris, Radiance & Luminaire machines. Supplies needed: 10-5/8 x10-5/8 hoop “snowman” positioning stickers Fabric: For the border – ½ yard For the center – 1/3 yard of three different tone on tone or solid fabrics to compliment your choice of border fabric Backing – if it’s not directional 2/3 yard, if it’s directional 1 ¼ Fusible fleece (single sided), or Thermolam fusible, you need a piece at least 30”x46” ½” double sided basting tape (I like the clover brand) Embroidery threads for quilting your quilt top Embroidery bobbins, neutral color (the back will be put on after embroidery) 75/11 embroidery needle Fabric marking pen in whatever color you can see on your quilt top, heat removable or water soluble Your favorite embroidery tools A silicone hooping mat, not required but very helpful If you have a mouse for your machine, bring that also. To prepare your quilt top: 1. Saturate the fabrics with starch, Magic Quilting & Crafting Spray, or whatever product you like. When almost dry, press. Fabrics should be firm but not necessarily stiff. 2. From the border fabric cut (4) 4” x wof strips 3. From each of the 3 tone on tone fabrics cut a piece 10 ½ x 14 4. Sew the 3 tone on tone fabrics together, long sides together, creating the center of the quilt. It should measure 14x30 ½ 5. Press 6. Measure the length of your center (should be 30 ½”). Cut two of the 4” x wof border strips to your measurement 6. Sew these on to each of the 2 sides of the already prepared center. 7. Press 8. Measure across the top and bottom (should be about 22”). Cut two strips from the remaining 4” x wof fabric strips to this measurement, 9. Sew strips across the top and bottom 10. Press 11. Press finished quilt top onto the fusible fleece making sure that there is AT LEAST 4” of fusible fleece all around the quilt top. This will allow us extra room for hooping. I used parchment paper to protect the iron from the fusible. Try to keep from distorting the borders while pressing. Be sure it has adhered well. Especially around the edges.
Cost: $ 30.00

class - Upcycled Hoodie - Jul 23, 2025 10:30 am
This a challenge for all of us to use some of those “so, so” quilts we’ve made, or maybe some of the household textiles (think bed spreads, tablecloths, shower curtains, blankets) that still have some life left, but you just can’t part with yet. Barb will teach you about using a pattern to create your own upcycle hoodie. (Don’t like hoodies, put a neck binding on it, and it's a one of a kind oversized shirt. Use that Afghan auntie made, and it's a sweater!). (“The fit of this upcycled hoodie is oversized, drop shoulder, and unisex. Sizes XS-3XL. No hood option.” ) In this two day session, we will cover how to use your pattern measure yourself, trace and cut YOUR pattern, layout and mark your household textile. You might even get it cut out! (If you are totally unsure of size and fit, you can make a wearable “muslin” from the yardage in your stash!) With some homework completed, our second session will be sewing, maybe a little fitting. ……. BUT this is a WONDERFULY oversized garment, so no need to worry! You will have a bespoke garment, and maybe find a use for your fabulous linen closet/ textile find! This is a two session class. Session 1 – pattern preparation, measuring, fabric layout. Homework, cut out your garment, prep the seams , make the pocket Session 2 - sew the garment together, finishing. SUPPLIES REQUIRED For Upcycled Oversized Hoodie Your textile size should be 70”x 90” (think large blanket, shower curtain, large table cloth) If you chose to use yardage, pre quilted fabrics, Kantha cloth quilts or yardage you will need twin size 70”x 90” or 3 ½ yds of 60” wide fabric or 6 yds of 45” wide fabric. Your pattern will also give creative cutting suggestion! *Sewing Machine in good working order, with operating manual *General Sewing Supplies including a fabric shears (rotary cutter is ok too!) *Machine needles 90/14 *Thread to match or coordinate with your textile *#2 Pencil to trace your pattern * Ruler for grain line markings Pattern will be provided in class. Your instructor will provide tracing "paper" for this project. You will not cut the original pattern.
