This is a 3-session class is for Beginning Quilters, or for those wanting some Skill Refreshing and Practice! You’ll work on HST’S (half square triangles) to create a fantastic quilt using a traditional block. We’ll even show you how to make those fancy HST’s a quick and easy way using the accordion method. Our quilt pattern comes from the Pat Sloan “Teach Me to Make My First Quilt” book. (Quilt size 40½ “ by 40 ½ “ Block size finished 12 by 12). You will also practice a little applique, an option that you will be able to add it to your quilt top if you choose to do so. Session 1 Cutting your fabric yardage into the required pieces for the HST’s , squares and strips quickly and precisely using the Stripology Ruler. Learning the accordion method for making HST’s. Squaring up your half square triangles to the required size, using your Stripology Ruler. Session 2 Completing any items from previous lesson or from homework. Laying our your HST units and squares to make your blocks (9 needed) assembling into rows. Adding the borders to the top and bottom of your top. Session 3 Completing any sewing steps from previous classes. Lesson on how to applique using fusible webbing and machine stitching using the blanket stitch, straight stitch, or any other “fancy” stitch on your machine. Use this technique to add the optional applique circles to your quilt top. If time permits, making the backing and sandwiching the quilt top. Materials and Supplies • Pat Sloan’s Teach Me to Make My First Quilt Book • Sewing Machine in good working order • Sewing/Quilting Tools from the SEWING TOOL Box List (Calico Station website link) • Stripology Ruler and/or a 6” by 24”ruler • Rotary cutter with a FRESH blade • 80/12 sewing machine needles • Thread to blend or match your chosen fabric FABRIC…. Pressed and prepared using starch, Magic Quilt Spray, Best Press, Terial Magic, or spray sizing Fabric Requirements: • All fabric is based on 42: wide fabric • 1 ½ yds cream or light colored fabric (fabric a) for blocks and border • ¾ yd red (fabric b) or color of your choice to contrast the blocks and border • ½ yd binding fabric (fabric c) coordinating (or contrast if using the optional applique technique) • 1 ¾ yd for backing • 45” by 45” batting • ¼ yd Steam a Seam fusible web ( for optional applique)

Ready to get started with machine embroidery? This fun, hands on beginner class will help you feel comfortable using your machine. During class, you will create an in the hoop project that can be used as a mug rug, hot pad, or mini quilt. You will learn the technique of piecing in the hoop, along with helpful tips and tricks related to machine embroidery. Topics will include stabilizers, needles, and general best practices to help you get the most out of your machine. We will be using a 5x7 embroidery hoop for this project. A fabric kit and the design will be provided in class. By the end of class, you will feel more comfortable and confident using your embroidery machine. Supplies Needed: • 5x7 embroidery hoop • Thread colors: white and a variety of greens including light, medium, and dark • Bobbins with neutral thread (white is sufficient) • Embroidery tape • Embroidery scissors • Fabric Scissors • Thread snips • Cutaway stabilizer • Your machine, embroidery module, and power cord • Usb Stick The shop opens at 10:00 for set up, and class starts at 10:30. This class is designed for Brother and Baby Lock machines. Registration Deadline is Wednesday August 26, 2026
