This is a 3-session class is for Beginning Quilters, or for those wanting some Skill Refreshing and Practice! We'll work on a basic 4 Patch Block and turn it into a great showcase for your favorite fabrics using the Pat Sloan "Teach Me to Make My First Quilt" book making a Table Runner (Block size finished: 12" by 12" Finished quilt 16-1/2" by 40 - ½") Session 1 We'll practice reading a pattern, cutting all your yardage (blocks, borders and binding) according to the directions (using the Stripology ruler). You'll practice the " seams, nesting seams, and adding borders. Session 2 We'll make the backing, create the quilt sandwich for your topper. During class you will be able to quilt your project, square it up, start the binding process. Session 3 Complete all phases of the binding using your machine (no hand sewing!!) Materials and Supplies • Pat Sloan's Teach Me to Make My First Quilt Book • Sewing Machine in good working order • Sewing/Quilting Tools from the SEWING TOOL Box List (Calico Station website link) • *Stripology Ruler and/or a 6" by 24"ruler * preferred for class • Rotary cutter with a FRESH blade • 80/12 sewing machine needles • Thread to blend or match your chosen fabric FABRIC.... Let’s drop those feed dogs, put on that embroidery/darning foot and move that fabric around! Join Barb as we dabble in free motion quilting. Learn to simply outline a motif on your fabric, fill in some space, and generally control where and how your fabric moves across your sewing machine surface! Supplies / Materials 5 or more Fabric Sandwiches approx. 12” by 12” in size • Sandwich = Backing, Batting, and a Top (spray baste, quilters safety pins or quilters glue stick BEFORE coming to class) • One of the sandwiches should have a motif (medium sized flower, animal or shape to outline) Thread in a dark neutral or black (Allows you to see your work, identify tension issues, outline a motif!) New needles for your machine – size 80-12 Embroidery or Darning foot Sewing machine, manual, cords or cables If your machine has an extension table please bring it. Scissors, ruler, marking pen, quilters safety pins (general sewing and quilting supplies) *Quilting gloves - not necessary, but may help you move and control the fabric. All brands of machines welcome.

You will learn to sew the 9-Patch blocks in a quick and easy method, learn the art of pressing, accurate " seams. Session 2 Pressing and using your Stripology ruler (or a large 12 % "square ruler) to "square up" blocks and join them together with sashing strips; create sashing rows and finally join them all together.
