Florida's oldest quilt shop has a new chapter — and it starts with a customer who fell in love with the place before she ever worked there.

Calico Station was founded in 1980 and has been a cornerstone of the Orange Park and Jacksonville sewing community for over 46 years. In 2021, the shop faced an uncertain future when its owner announced plans to retire and close the doors for good.

Jennifer Brannon wasn't just an employee when that call came — she was a customer first. On her very first visit, Jennifer came into the shop to look at machines. Nancy had stepped out of an open sew class — as customers often do — and the two struck up a conversation. Nancy was sharing her enthusiasm for her machine, and when Jennifer admitted she had no idea what hers was capable of, Nancy sat right down beside her and showed her everything. That visit ended with Jennifer placing an order for the very first Brother combo machine sold at Calico Station as a brand new Brother dealer. That moment — a stranger becoming a friend over a shared love of sewing — is exactly what Calico Station has always been.

When Jennifer heard the shop might close, she didn't hesitate. On Memorial Day 2021 she made the decision to buy it. Her reason was simple: Calico Station is history, it's community, and it belongs to the people who love it. The transaction was completed July 30, 2021.

Her one condition before signing: every staff member stays. Because Calico Station isn't just a shop — it's the people inside it.

Today Calico Station is an authorized Baby Lock and Brother dealer carrying sewing machines, embroidery machines, sergers, and longarm quilting machines. We carry quilting fabric, notions, patterns, books, accessories, and furniture for your sewing room. Our two certified technicians provide repair and maintenance for Baby Lock and Brother machines. We offer longarm quilting services, classes for all skill levels, and the same welcoming community that made Jennifer a customer long before she was an owner.
