USING RULER TEMPLATES FOR MACHINE QUILTING
In this class we will explore the use of Ruler Templates for Machine Quilting. This is not necessarily a replacement for Free Motion Quilting, but can be used as an addition to it…should you so choose.
SEWING MACHINE in Good Working Order, power cord, foot pedal, Single hole stitch plate, preferred if you have one
**Ruler Foot for your Machine – This is a MUST!
Machine Quilting Gloves
Super or regular Slider for your machine - OPTIONAL
¼” Ruler Templates –
I will discuss templates in more detail in class. Bring what you have…there are many brands, sizes and styles available.
Handi-grip or a similar product for the back of rulers which do not have the non-slip back
That Purple THANG – optional, but very helpful for its ¼” marker
Washable marking pen/pencil or chalk
2 yards of Muslin or fabric that reads somewhat solid – cut into 20” squares, the 7th piece will need to be pieced.
Batting to make 7 quilt sandwiches
Backing for the quilt sandwiches – I’m using old fabrics that I have laying around – color does not matter. You may purchase some extra muslin, if you wish.
Before putting the sandwiches together, mark the muslin following the provided printed templates. Hold off on Marking the Cathedral Windows section….. Remember: You are cutting your Blocks 20” square, the spacings plus the measurements given for the sections must add up to 20” in both directions. Questions?? Please give me a call. 616-2109
505 Temporary Spray - baste the quilt sandwiches together.
Thread to stitch – choose a color you can see…Aurafil 50 is great top and bottom or your personal favorite
Basic sewing supplies (Sewing Tool Box)
Quilting or Topstitching Needles, size 80/12
This class will run for 3 sessions. Be sure that you have the following templates ready for the first class. 9 Patch, 4-Squares, and Triangles
Please note, that although these templates were drawn to scale, they have been reduced to fit on regular-sized paper. Cut fabric into 20” squares and then follow dimensions on the pages to create the designs we will be stitching.
