Class Schedule

As I write this, it’s 100+ outside and wonderful to be inside. What a great time to get a lot of quilting done as it’s much too hot to do much else!

We’ve been working hard on new classes and projects and are eager to share them with you. We’ve set aside a week in July and again in August for Christmas classes. These classes will all be FREE when you purchase the supplies for them. Kits will be available for as many of them as possible. What a wonderful way to get a jump on the holidays!

July also contains a week of Kids Camp. Sheila has found a wonderful booklet full of fun projects she thinks the kids will love. Let’s get those young sewers hooked now, right?

Plan to collect Calico Station Bucks again…and spend them at our auction in September. This has been a fun summer event the last several years and I’m sure we’ll enjoy it again this summer. The more you spend, the more Bucks you earn.

Nancy and Martha are attending Bernina University in July, so expect new excitement from them. We always come back from that event with new ideas, new classes and new inspiration to share with you.

Have a great summer, stay cool, and visit often.

Martha, Pam and the gang at Calico Station

Meet the Teachers

Friday, July 2, 9:30
Saturday, July 3, 10:00

Schnibbles contest

It’s a national contest with big-time national prizes, but we’re having one of our own, too! The winner will be entered into the national competition and we’ll have our own prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Purchase Carrie Nelson’s book, Schnibbles Times Two…add some Moda fabric and have your quilt to us by July 31. Those are all the
rules.

We’ll display our entries here at the store for the first week of August so come in and vote for your favorite. We can hardly wait to see what you’ve been working on this summer!

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!!!

That’s right, it’s that time of year again. August 20, 21, and 22 are this year’s date. We’ve also added Thursday, the 19th as an optional day. This retreat is held down the street at the Marriot Courtyard, our favorite home-away-from-home. The food is terrific and the friendships you’ll enjoy are even better. The cost is $160 (an extra $25 for Thursday) and you can save your place with a deposit of $50. Make it soon…this weekend will fill up fast.

Dinner at Verns??

What the heck is that, right? Well, Michele will be here one Friday night a month (July 16 and August 13 this calendar) to host nothing more that a great chance to get together and sew. And eat. And be with friends. What could be better?? Sign up, bring a dish to share, and pack your more recent project to finish here. Vern will undoubtedly be in attendance (you know how he is…), but you’ll probably need to count on each other for the entertaining conversation.

Become a Fan!

That’s right…Calico Station now has a Facebook page. Since we’re not in our 20’s, we’re learning slowly, but check our page, become a fan and we’ll share pictures and fun from happenings here at the store.

Year-Long Projects for 2010!!!

$5 Quilt

Our project this year is going along just great. It’s definitely not too late to start; you’d just have a few blocks to do to catch up! Ask for details in the store about this fun way to make blocks for only $5!!

Thimbleberries Club

This is our longest-running club and we have fun! We meet every month and celebrate all things “Thimbleberry” including fabrics, patterns and, often, even recipes. We’ll be working on a great new quilt this year in your choice of two colors. Every month’s meeting includes a newsletter, free patterns and lots of sharing. This year’s club will begin in February, so join us then to join the fun. Cost of club: $10

2010 Thimbleberries Quilt (Before Pieced Border)

30th Anniversary Celebration Quilts

We continue to prepare these fun kits each month. Remember that the kits are ready on the 1st of each month and priced somewhere around $30. They’re small, simple and all ready for you to enjoy!

July Anniversary Celebration Quilt Photograph

Bespoken Blooms Block of the Month

This is a gorgeous new quilt designed by Robyn Pandolph. The fabric for the quilt is also designed by her and we think you’re going to love it. It includes a lot of appliqué – you’ll choose the method you prefer.

Stitcher’s Garden

It’s not too late to start! We saw it at market and decided then and there that many of you will love it. All the patterns are written as lessons on your sewing machine! Haven’t used all those decorative stitches you have? You will on this quilt. Each class uses a variety of presser feet and the classes teach you how. This is more than a Block of the Month. It really is a Lesson of the Month and each month’s class will follow a Bernina Club meeting. This is no way means you have to have a Bernina to make the quilt. We just know that many of you will be here anyway and having class and club on the same day is convenient.

The cost is $45 to sign up and that includes your background fabric for the quilt. After that, each month is $15 to cover your kit and the class.

Stitcher's Garden Blocks

Planning for September!!

The first of September will be a funfilled weekend. Friday, the 3rd at 9:30 and Saturday, the 4th at 11:00 will be Meet the Teachers. We always enjoy those events.

Also on Saturday, at 9:00, Marsha Hicks, our Checker sales rep, will be here for demo days. She’s done this for us before and she’s great! We’ve already seen some of the products and techniques she’s going to show and they’re fun! The event is FREE so definitely plan to attend.

Also starting in September, Calico Station will host a Jo’s Little Women Club!! Yipee—and the best news is that Jan Vaine, an experienced and dedicated Jo Morton teacher, will be heading up the club. Don’t ask us yet about details (like cost!) as we’ve yet to iron all that out with Jan, but we’ve arranged with Jo Morton to host her club and have already begun to collect lots of her fabrics. We’re excited!!

Celebrate the holidays early!

Celebrate the holidays early—in July and in August. We’ve selected great Christmas classes that are perfect for gift-giving or to decorate your home for the holidays. Kits will be available for most projects and all classes are FREE with the purchase of your supplies. (all classes $25 without supply purchase) How about that for our Christmas gift to you?

Calico Station Bucks are Back!!!

This will be our third summer to play with our Bucks. The game is the same—earn CS Bucks all through July and August—the more you spend, the more you earn. The only change is that purchases of sewing machines don’t qualify for Bucks. That should make us all on a more even field.

Bucks can be spent at our auction on Saturday, September 11 at noon. Ask for more details in the store, but plan to collect those bucks all summer.

Longaberger Get Togethers

The first Friday night of each month, Martha will be hosting a brief look at what’s new with Longaberger—the company and it’s products! Stop by after work…grab a snack or a glass of wine, and see what’s new.

30th Anniversary Sales

Be sure to mark your calendars for the 30th of each month. Everything in the store is 30% off IF you bring your Calico Station tote bag (or buy one when you get here) and IF it fits in the bag. Don’t worry, the bag is huge! Special orders don’t receive discount and the sale is on in-store merchandise only.

Be sure to visit us at our website: calicostation.com often for updates and information. Please “subscribe” there to receive our email news.

We’ve also been told that you might want to add our email address: calicostationinc@bellsouth.net to your address book. This will insure that our emails come through your server to you. We announce impromptu sales and events on using this email list, so sign up today so you won’t miss a thing!
